When our team at A-Z Finish Carpentry approached this bathroom renovation on Aurora Lane in Salem, we knew we'd need to think outside the traditional renovation box. The unique challenges of working within a townhouse structure led to innovative solutions that ultimately created a stunning, spa-like retreat for our clients.


The Challenge:

The original 13-foot bathroom suffered from an awkward layout that placed a bulky jacuzzi tub near the entrance while relegating a cramped shower to the opposite end. Dark finishes and dated fixtures made the space feel confined and uninviting. Additionally, the townhouse's concrete and metal construction required us to adapt our typical approach to bathroom renovations.


Technical Innovation:

Unlike traditional home renovations where we work with plywood subfloors and wooden studs, this project required a different approach. We adapted our methods to work with:

  • Existing concrete flooring, eliminating the need for plywood subfloor
  • Metal stud framing instead of traditional 2x4 wood studs
  • Specialized mounting and installation techniques for the new fixtures

The Transformation:

Our solution focused on maximizing space and creating a light, contemporary aesthetic. Key features include:


A luxurious oversized shower featuring:

  • Dramatic marble-look tile with sophisticated veining
  • Matte black fixtures including a rainfall showerhead
  • Modern hexagonal floor tile in charcoal
  • Frameless glass enclosure
  • Built-in niche with hexagonal tile accent


Custom double vanity featuring:

  • Warm wood tones to add natural warmth
  • Matte black hardware and faucets
  • Contemporary rectangular undermount sinks
  • Sleek, black-framed mirrors
  • Modern LED lighting


Thoughtful Details:

  • Soft sage green wall color creating a calm, spa-like atmosphere
  • Clean white trim work and baseboards
  • Coordinated matte black accessories

By removing the oversized jacuzzi tub and rethinking the entire layout, we were able to create a space that feels significantly larger and more functional. The combination of marble-look tiles, modern fixtures, and a soothing color palette transforms this bathroom from dated and awkward to sophisticated and serene.
